watches Two of Google's Google's most successful hardware partners of late are also the first to unveil their latest collaborations with the Mountain View monolith — this time on their respective debut smart watches running the just-announced Android Wear platform.

watches LG announced its upcoming G Watch and Motorola previewed the Moto 360 in coordinated announcements timed to coincide with Google’s introduction of Android Wear on Tuesday.

watches Very little is known about the actual specs of either watch, but Motorola released video and some glamour shots of the Moto 360 touting its round face that’s less bulky than existing smart watches on the market now, like the Pebble or Samsung Galaxy Gear . However, LG’s G Watch has a rectangular face like the Pebble and Gear.

watches LG has made the last two Google Nexus phones and the Google Play edition G Pad tablet, while Motorola has had an even closer relationship with Google as a division of the company for the past few years.  Although it’s now in the process of being sold to Lenovo. Motorola’s Moto X also has a touchless control feature that’s very similar to the way Android Wear can be controlled either via voice commands or touch.

watches LG says the G Watch will be compatible with a wide variety of Android smartphones. Motorola has made no such promises just yet about the Moto 360, although it is planning to share more details with reporters during a special Google Hangout on Wednesday.

watches More details on Android Wear and what both watches will be capable of in the software department can be found in my earlier post on the topic.

Motorola says to expect the Moto 360 to become available this summer, while the LG G Watch is said to be coming sometime in the second quarter of this year.

In addition to Motorola and LG, Google says it is working on other watches with Asus, HTC HTC , Samsung, watchmaker Fossil Fossil and chip makers Broadcom, Imagination, Intel, Mediatek and Qualcomm.
